There have been many styles of art over the centuries with renaissance, pre-raphaelites, cubism, impressionism, abstract, etc being just some of (too) many. 

 

All have had their devotees and admirers, but none have celebrated the ordinariness of struggling artists who do it for the enjoyment of creating. And there are millions of us.  Just look at You Tube or Instagram!  I hope, in time, that this becomes the first self-deprecating art movement, where detractors have nowhere to go with their condemnation.

 

To these millions, I dedicate a new movement, which in Welsh is to be known as 'Celf Cachu' or in English 'Shit (or Crap) Art'.  'Cachu' is more literally translated as 'shit' and has far more impact in Welsh than the equivalent has in English.  The word 'Cachu' has derivatives with very similar pronunciations in many languages and the word has a particular resonance in Welsh.  My wife is keen that I point out that the term 'shit art' does not mean I create art from faecal material and suggested that this was the reason the art was not selling.  I describe what materials I have created my art from and I can assure you it is not from shit.  I am being persuaded to link to FaceBook which may mean I reach a wider audience, although I am awaiting for my technical team (digitally astute children) to assist.  However, whilst I thought that Instagram was a step too far; my digitally astute daughter has created a site for me and has even taught me how to upload material onto it.  I am surprised and even shocked that I now have a very small gang of followers some of whom are not even family members.

 

Should these plans cause my new artistic movement to go viral, then we may need to seek new terms for aficionados such at Shittites or Shittists.  Shittite actually has a definition in the urban dictionary and means 'a bakelite-material used for PCB (?) construction so named for the characteristically interesting odour produced when the material is cut.'  On that basis Shittists which, with the repeated letter 'i', has no definition on the internet.  Other interesting new names could also flow from this, such as 'Shitique' for a detailed analysis or assessment of one of these works of art.  In addition, people who report on these issues could be termed 'Shittics'.

The paintings that are represented on this website are all mine and most I know are crap, as my wife has only five of my pictures hanging on the walls in the house.  Despite the suffix to many of the paintings as 'Sold'; I have only ever sold four pictures; with the others labelled as such, despite having been given to family and friends.  Some of these individuals have actually expressed delight in owning one!

On a positive note four sales are three more than Van Gogh managed!
